Last Good Bye

Last Good Bye, originally uploaded by Barb Henry.

We all have to face the loss of a beloved parent and it is extremely painful. I lost my father 9 years ago and it feels like yesterday. My husband just lost his father this last week.

It was particularly hard because he lived with us for a year and from that time together we all became closer.

So how do we deal with all these emotions? After watching his 4 children, grandchildren and family it becomes clear that we all have our way of dealing with it but ultimately we all have to sleep with the pain and late at night our defences are down. I woke up at 1:30 this morning crying and had hives all over my body. So much for covering up my feelings! Our bodies will let us know.

This photo is of my husband (on the right) and his brother delivering their father's ashes to his favortie fishing spot. The rest of the family watched from above. It was a beautiful place and the attraction of the blessed wild was soothing.

This is such a lovely spot to rejoin the earth and be at peace and no longer feel pain.

This is to all the fathers who are lost and forever loved.

It is amazing how the sun and shadows can bring out the colors and texture of the plain items around us.

This reminds me of my grandparents home, it was built in 1904. As a child grandmother would send me down to get various canned goods and food items and I was just sure that the biggest spider in the world was waiting for me.
I think the clever tin man would have finished me off.

This appeals to me and I am not even sure why. Somehow a tree in the middle of nowhere and in this case at the end of a forked road seems to appealing and I see great background for a mystery novel and the story of what happens around the tree or down the road. It is times like this that I know my mind is probably a wee bit different then most folks. :)

I have often pondered the aging process being like an old car. Some cars even in their decay just have something special that makes them endure and stand out. People are like that too.

He knows he is cute and he is going to a new home. This is a brother to the other kitten. One of the girls at the office had a a mama cat deliver before getting her fixed, so she is bringing each kitten in to the office to be picked up by the new owners. This is one darling little furball.

Woman in her 50's.

I noticed years ago when my grandmother was in her 90's that she still had the most beautiful blue eyes and even though her body aged; the eyes that reflect our mind were still beautiful.

It's Spring, it's Spring!
I even saw the sun today and it was glorious. Spring rains do produce the lustrous greens in Oregon but I do get impatient for life enriching sunlight.

Enchanting Farm

Enchanting Farm
Originally uploaded by Barb Henry.

Recent photo but this really reminded me of a different time when things were slower than they are now. I remember visiting these farms when I was younger and riding horses with my friends. It was so different in that when you went out there were no cell phones and we could be gone for hours. Now my computer, my cell/palm phone, they follow me everywhere.
Not all bad really as I can communicate with my son in Alaska and my mom daily if I choose. There is always a trade off isn't there.

But right now in the middle of winter my heart craves a day out riding and enjoying the moment.
