Last Leaf
The valley here in Oregon has been fogged in for quite a while now. It makes the cold seep to your bones and the outside look so bleak. This one last leaf was still holding on and kind of reminds me of how we do that against the toughest odds. Nature mimics man or vise-versa.
It is clear that the season of holiday lights is for a good and solid reason to try to light up our nights and our life during the time of short days and dark weather.

With winter and cold nights, Spike is even more attuned to our bed. The other cats dive under the covers but with his thick coat he is happy to take up the top and has become darned near too big to lay on our bodies, it is almost like another person in bed.

Fogged In
This photo was taken during the day when the sun just could not penetrate the fog.
In the deep of late fall/early winter the cold starts and some days we are just socked in. On days like this, you can feel the chill in your bones and wish for the summer sun. That is when a warm fire place and cup of coffee are most appealing and sometimes you can see the beauty of a foggy day.

Snake Pit !
For some reason these guys search out my father-in-laws room for daytime sleeping. Now bear in mind he is not the cat fan that we are but he is ........ slowly turning over a new leaf. I don't think the cats have given him a choice. :D

Trust that has to be trust. Take a look of the closeup and Missy's eyes are so darn sweet. She is not sure about this process as evidenced by the goofy look on her face but she still is adoring. Quite an expression. :D

Fall Leaf
My favorite season and it seems to pass so quickly. The leaves are in full color but it is getting toward the end before the cold winter comes. The next big wind will strip the trees of the last of their changing leaves.

Bird in Leaves
What a pleasant surprise this was. I was taking photos of fall foilage and didn't even see the bird until I processed the photos. The amazing thing is how clear the bird is on a closeup, I think he was not moving so I would not see him.

He is such a charcter. Spike was goofy all day; running through the house like he was on fire with total disregard for any object or person in his path. He is not quite a year old yet and he is something else.
This is a photo of him beneath the table instead of on top of it where I keep catching him. I swear the minute I leave the room, he sneaks back up.

Golden Light
I wish I had more time, I was doing photos of a house for a listing and it had the most amazing colors that actually worked. I saw this shot, but did not have a tripod to do it right.
It is difficult to take the time that is required when you are doing other work. :)
I would love to spend the rest of my life doing photography, web design and graphics. It feels like that is what I am supposed to do and when I get working I have no clue of time just a nice warm feel of total concentration.

Doing all this artwork has helped me make it through Glen's nursing. He is back in the hospital again and I have spent 3 of the last 4 days in the emergency room with him. I have lost track of days, missed appointments and feel oddly enough a bit disoriented.
How strange it feels when you suddenly cannot do your routines, it really throws you off.
Hopefully with a bit of time at the hospital he can recover and the rest of us can recover our balance.

This had to be set up in a studio as it has a regular backdrop, but it still cracks me up. My grandfather it is my understanding was quite a rounder when he was young. My memories of him are when he was in his 70s mostly. He used to play solitaire by the hour and had the most beautiful rose garden in Clarkston Washington.

Surgery date
Have you ever come near to rock bottom in your life?
It has been super tough lately. I vacillate between wanting to disappear to feelings of guilt to wanting to help to wanting to hide.
My father-in-law has been living with us for quite a while now and at the moment is unable to get anywhere without help, his legs are not working properly. He is due for another big surgery date this coming Tuesday.
While he is in the hospital I will be relieved of "house arrest" at least for a couple of days.
At the moment I am unclear of my feelings and emotions. It would probably be easier if he were my dad and I felt some closeness to him. I feel compassion for him but it is tough getting over the invasion of my space and time.
My father went very quickly and what is happening here and now is the one thing he would try to avoid at any cost. It broke my heart when he died and if it was him in that bed I would feel so different.
So what does this make me? I am not sure, just lost.

Night Field Burning

Night Field Burning
Originally uploaded by Barb Henry.
Years ago they used to allow burning of the grass fields at night, this was taken out of our front yard on a night that they seemed to have everything lit up. We had a grove of trees in front of the house. I tried to save this off of an old slide, taken with an equally old Leica.
Shaving Magic
Not to age myself or anything, but this was from my grandfather, he used to sharpen he knife on the strop.
He died at 80 many years ago and now my father has joined him. I like to think they are hugging and talking up a storm, maybe traveling the universe and viewing planets and stars. My dad would have liked that very much. When I was a little girl,he used to point out the stars to me.
