What does it take to protect things smaller than we are

I will never understand how people can take on a small pet and then when it gets to be an adult they let it go. This little mama found her way under our home office window and had her 7 kittens under a bush there. We think she wanted to be close to humans.

Taz was the first to tell us there were new kittens under our window. In fact he was howling up a storm for about 3 days which is when I figured they were born. He is a very high strung boy but when there are kittens around he settles down and is so happy.

Here are the babies, all 7 of them. Mama and babies are now indoors and well cared for. Is it so hard to get a cat fixed? They are now with my friend Joyce who fosters babies and their mothers. One of them looks like it will have Siamese markings and frankly the mother is such a sweet cat I am going to try to talk my husband into another little waif. :)

Last Good Bye

Last Good Bye, originally uploaded by Barb Henry.

We all have to face the loss of a beloved parent and it is extremely painful. I lost my father 9 years ago and it feels like yesterday. My husband just lost his father this last week.

It was particularly hard because he lived with us for a year and from that time together we all became closer.

So how do we deal with all these emotions? After watching his 4 children, grandchildren and family it becomes clear that we all have our way of dealing with it but ultimately we all have to sleep with the pain and late at night our defences are down. I woke up at 1:30 this morning crying and had hives all over my body. So much for covering up my feelings! Our bodies will let us know.

This photo is of my husband (on the right) and his brother delivering their father's ashes to his favortie fishing spot. The rest of the family watched from above. It was a beautiful place and the attraction of the blessed wild was soothing.

This is such a lovely spot to rejoin the earth and be at peace and no longer feel pain.

This is to all the fathers who are lost and forever loved.

Fenced Roses

It is amazing how the sun and shadows can bring out the colors and texture of the plain items around us.

Basement Chills

This reminds me of my grandparents home, it was built in 1904. As a child grandmother would send me down to get various canned goods and food items and I was just sure that the biggest spider in the world was waiting for me.
I think the clever tin man would have finished me off.

Somehow a tree in the middle of nowhere and in this case at the end of a forked road seems to appealing and I see great background for a mystery novel and the story of what happens around the tree or down the road. It is times like this that I know my mind is probably a wee bit different then most folks. :)
